Learn About the Program Framework

In creating Lessons from Literature, the Curriculum Council crafted an initial Program Framework that outlined goals, classroom needs and barriers, and the steps necessary to work through the hands-on teaching of the program. This framework was then used as the foundation for the design of the final program materials.

The framework follows 5 steps:

  1. Building teacher awareness of the dynamics and impact of physical, verbal and sexual abuse and instilling teacher confidence to discuss these topics in the literature classroom
  2. Creating a respectful classroom environment that is conducive to open, reflective, and respectful dialogue
  3. Lesson planning for deep and meaningful classroom discussion of abuse
  4. Facilitating classroom discussion of abuse as exemplified in literature selections, in society and in the world
  5. Motivating students to oppose physical, verbal, and sexual abuse and raise peer and community awareness
